A wire or textile cloth cover is supported by the drainage systems found in the leaves. The slurry is pushed under pressure through the vessel after precoating. While the clarified liquid flows through and into a filter leaf, solid particles are held in the precoat, or filter media. Liquids flow from the leaf into the interior of the shaft and subsequently exit the filter into a holding tank. A valve is used to drain liquid cake or sludge in between batches. A bigger hole is necessary for dry cakes; occasionally, the entire vessel slides back to allow for the leafs' discharge and cleaning.

Horizontal Pressure:Because they are the easiest to clean and operate, horizontal pressure filters are the most widely used. Horizontal vessels are typical for larger flows because the horizontal layout increases the possible filtration area.
